Are you ready to feel better?
Osteopathy and Osteopathic Healthcare Services
Osteopaths are regulated healthcare professionals just like doctors, midwives and nurses are. I am fully qualified, insured and by law registered with the General Osteopathic Council. In addition to a Masters in Osteopathic Medicine, I hold a degree in psychology and am trained in NLP, cognitive coaching, and sleep coaching. I am also a member of the Osteopathic Sports Care Association, the International Society for the Study of Pain, and work for Great Britain Ultimate as part of the medical team for Team GB at international events.
How I work
As an osteopath, I will both observe and feel how your body moves as a whole – not just the part that hurts. I’ll follow that with any medical assessment or orthopaedic examinations needed in order to diagnose the problem and find out what is contributing to your pain.
Then we can discuss what kind of treatment would be best and will help you regain an improved state of health. I usually suggest a progression of gentle physical techniques, streatches and movement based strategies to increase joint mobility, relieve pain, encourage blood flow and neuromuscular activation and to help your body’s own natural tendency to heal.
I will offer you no nonsense treatment with my hands – but also practical and realistic lifestyle, exercise and dietary advice to help you recover faster.
I aim to help you as quickly as possible and get you on the road to looking after yourself, without unnecessary trips to the clinic.
If you need referral to another kind of healthcare provider, I will arrange this and work with them to get you better faster. I work cooperatively with many different healthcare providers, including GPs, consultants, physiotherapists, podiatrists and chiropodists.
What can I help you with?
I have helped a large variety of people, including casual and elite sportspeople, elderly people, manual workers and those stuck at a desk. People come to me for help with a range of problems including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, work strains, arthritis pains, sciatica, sprains, muscle aches and sports injuries. I also see people for individual health coaching sessions revolving around sleep and stress management. The most common things I see in clinic include:
- low back pain
- disc problems with or without sciatica or referred pain
- sports injuries
- shoulder problems including frozen shoulder and rotator cuff injuries
- neck pain and headaches
- plantar fasciitis
- muscle strains
- difficulty sleeping
What kind of treatments are used?
I use gentle and effective treatments in helping you feel better and in helping your body regain it’s full potential. Gentle techniques help to reduce pain while minimising side effects, and movement based techniques encourage the body – under supervision – to regain it’s ability to move well and without pain. Each person is different, so each person’s treatment will vary, and I’ll work with you throughout your treatment maximise the benefit and minimise the number of sessions you would need. You’ll always get self care advice and/or exercises to help you keep improving between sessions, and you will leave your course of treatment with a toolbox of strategies to help keep you well. In the event you need more complex care, I’ll refer you and work with your healthcare team along your road to recovery.
The treatments that I might use include
- soft tissue techniques and manipulations
- joint mobilisations and movements
- stretches and stretch and contraction movement based techniques
- sports taping or strapping, as appropriate
- postural and movement retraining guidance
- workstation assessements and home setup help
- exercise advice and programmes to rehabilitate and later to help prevent further injury
- mindfulness approaches to aid in recovering from chronic pain
- sleep coaching for when loss of sleep is a contributor to pain
How can I pay for my session?
Both cash and cards are very welcome. If booking a Telehealth or Coaching call, payment will be requested prior to the call and can be made via Paypal or Stripe.
Do you take private insurance?
I can do electronic billing for the following companies:
When booking you must provide your insurer name, membership number and authorisation code. You must agree to pay any fees not covered by the insurer within 7 days of being invoiced.
I can provide receipts for other companies who do reimbursement, such as corporate cash plans.
I do not accept AXA/PPP or BUPA at the Brook Green location.
I've never been to an osteopath - does treatment hurt?
I use very gentle techniques, and avoid 'the crack' that sometimes people are afraid of. Sometimes people will experience a little bit of discomfort, but I aim to minimise that -and I'll walk you through what to expect in your situation before asking if you are OK for me to proceed. You can always tell me to stop if you are not comfortable.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes! You are always welcome to bring someone with you into your session if you would be more comfortable. If you are under 18, you must come in with a parent.
What is your clinic like?
The photo below is the clinic treatment room. It's big, airy, bright and calm. I aim to provide a space for your session that allows us to work together in movement and provide a peaceful environment for your treatment.
