What is osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a gentle, hands on system of diagnosis and treatment that helps with many aches, pains and injuries.  I use my clinical skills, orthopedic examination, hands on treatment and exercise and lifestyle advice to help people get better.

I have helped a large variety of people, including casual and elite sportspeople, elderly people, manual workers and those stuck at a desk. People come to me for help with a range of problems including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, work strains, arthritis pains, sciatica, sprains, muscle aches and sports injuries. I also see people for individual health coaching sessions revolving around sleep and stress management.  The most common things I see in clinic include:

  • low back pain
  • disc problems with or without sciatica or referred pain
  • sports injuries
  • shoulder problems including frozen shoulder and rotator cuff injuries
  • neck pain and headaches
  • plantar fasciopathy
  • muscle strains
  • difficulty sleeping

As an osteopath, I will both observe and feel how your body moves as a whole – not just the part that hurts. I’ll follow that with any medical assessment or orthopaedic examinations needed in order to diagnose the problem and find out what is contributing to your pain.

We can then discuss what kind of treatment would be best for you and your needs. I usually suggest a progression of gentle physical techniques, streatches and movement based strategies to increase joint mobility, relieve pain, encourage blood flow and neuromuscular activation to help your body’s own natural tendency to heal.  You’ll also get a comprehensive exercise plan, delivered by video direct to your phone – and where you can message me at any time for help or progressions.

I will offer you no nonsense treatment with my hands – but also practical and realistic lifestyle, exercise and dietary advice to help you recover faster. I aim to help you as quickly as possible and get you on the road to looking after yourself, without unnecessary trips to the clinic.

How Do I Know If I Need an Osteopath?

It’s very important to get a diagnosis from a qualified person, and not just try to get a problem ‘rubbed better’.  If you have any physical aches, pains, stiffness or injuries you should always get diagnosed by a qualified person.  With me you’ll get a full assessment, evidence based clinical care, gentle treatment and a holistic approach to managing your pain to reduce the risk it comes back.

What to Expect on Your First Visit to Clinic

You’ll find yourself well prepared for your first visit – there’s no need to worry! There’s an ever growing FAQ, and the email you get when booking has a lot of information in it. Here are a few common questions:

Will it hurt?

I always treat people gently and never want to hurt you.  That said, sometimes treatment can be a little uncomfortable for some people and you can feel a little sore the next day.  I’ll go through all of this with you and do everything I can do ensure you get treatment that is both effective and gentle.

Is it confidential?

Absolutely! Just like a doctor’s visit.  I can’t and won’t discuss your session with anyone, even if they are paying, without your explicit permission.

Can I pay with a card?

Yes! I take all cards (well, I haven’t found one that my machine doesn’t like!)

Will I have to undress?

I’ll have to see your body in order to examine you, so wear something comfortable that you can move in – such as a shorts and vest.  I always have towels and gowns on hand to cover areas not being treated so you can be comfortable and relax during your treatment session.

What if I have more questions?

I first went to see Tracy 18 months ago with frozen shoulder . I was in a lot of pain and had heard about a technique which I googled and found Tracy. I can’t express how grateful I am to have found her ! She has helped me immensely with both my shoulders, given me excellent advice in all respects.

I have visited Tracy for two separate unrelated problems over the last year- a neck problem, and a sports-related knee problem. I recommend her highly.

Her clinical examination and analysis of the the root cause of problems is very considered, thorough and well explained. The treatment is therefore focused and – most importantly – effective.
